Freedom of the press, proper debate and civil discussion where did it all go?
Prior to confederation three groups were very active and held the balance of power and control of their perspective areas; Family Compact in Upper Canada, Château Clique in Lower Canada and the Council of Twelve in Nova Scotia.
Members of these groups were notably against democratic reform and responsible government.

This was done by limiting leadership positions in the colonies to people with connections, business ties and family relationships.
The unelected branches of government answered only to the lieutenant-governors, producing ineffective elected Legislative Assemblies.
Fortunately, men such as newspaper man, Joseph Howe took a stand in Nova Scotia. Ironically Joe was a Liberal and my 1st cousin 6 times removed.
In 1848, the first responsible government in British North America was granted.
This exclusive group mentality is happening again through the so-called elites of our society or did it ever go away. I would be safe in saying, it was here, stayed here and in some cases repackaged.

Some would say it is the Liberals or the folks on the left; I would beg to differ.
It is any group, family or organization that holds the sway of power in a specified area.
Families, unions, landowner groups, lodges... the list is extensive.
It is classic to show unpreferred treatment for people who do not support their narrative or share their agenda.
Debate and civil discussion is highly unlikely; they would rather censor free speech and expression.
It is our choice to think critically or to go with the flow, the status quo.
